Writing Prompts to Inspire, THREE!

Here are some more inspirational first-lines for you to use as you bring a new story to life!

1. I wonder if I'm too old, he thought, gazing from his parlor window, for love.

2. His eyes were as blue silk, hair black as burnt cork, hands weathered and worn as old leather.

3. "I know who did it," he said, heart-pounding and voice wavering.

4. Nobody gonna love me now, she thought, daring to gaze at her reflection in the pond.

5. It may seem strange, but gunshots and screams can often go unnoticed.

6. She opened her eyes, only to discover a large, dripping tongue dangling before them.

7. What does it mean, she wondered, if you lose your wedding ring on your first anniversary?

8. "Chickens scare me," he confessed, "unless they're on my plate."

9. This could make a pretty good weapon, he realized, handling the cool rubber of the narrow cord.

10. Dread locks swayed against Armani-covered shoulders as he entered the room.

WHAT IS YOUR SOURCE FOR THE TRUTH?

If you are searching for the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, who and what are you going to consult? If you are looking for advice, information and instruction on how to be saved from sin and how to live the Christian life, where can you find God's inerrant truth.

Are you going to consult books written by:
Clement of Rome
Irenaeus of Lysons
Tertullian
Augustine of Hippo
Polycarp of Smyrna
Bishop Fulton Sheen
Martin Luther
John Calvin
John Knox
George Whitefield
Charles "Chuck" Colson
Cotton Mather
Jerry Falwell
Billy Graham
John Piper
Max Lucado
Alexander Campbell
T. D. Jakes
Oral Roberts
Dwight Moody
Joesph Smith Jr.
Mary Baker Eddy
Charles Taze Russel
Sun Myung Moon
L. Ron Hubbard

DO YOU REALLY WANT TO TRUST YOUR SALVATION TO THESE MEN?

As for me I trust the book written by these men:
Moses
Daniel
Matthew
Mark
Luke
John
Paul
Peter
Jude

I trust the book that was inspired by God.
2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is inspired by God....

WOULD THERE BE THOUSANDS OF DENOMINATIONS, IF ALL MEN WOULD JUST CONSULT GOD AND HIS VIEW FOUND IN, HIS BOOK, AND HIS BOOK ALONE?

THE BIBLE SHOULD BE YOUR MANUAL FOR THE TRUTH!

Steve, Thanks for your response. I tried to locate your blog from the web address you provided, but was unable to.

However, I think your point is interesting. I was raised Christian, but I obtained my master's degree in philosophy from a secular university. So, though I agree that Jesus is the Truth and that the Bible should be relied upon as a "truth filter" of sorts for other things we read; however, I also discovered that truth isn't limited to the Bible alone. Because mankind were made in God's image (Who is Truth), we all have within us a built-in truth meter. We desire truth and certainty and for things to make sense. We like logic and good reasoning.

Personally, my knowledge base and understanding of God's nature and the nature of mankind has been greatly enriched by reading and studying works written by all kinds of people, not just Biblical writers, but other Christian writers, atheistic writers, ancient philosophers, modern philosophers, etc. That's not to say that I blindly swallow everything I read, but being afraid to listen to what the people around us are saying makes us ineffective as witnesses to Christ's love and truth.

So, I think to claim that by reading anything not contained in the Bible is akin to "trusting my salvation" to other people is a bit of an extreme claim. Technically, I could even be reading the Bible and not be trusting my salvation to what I read there, if I was a biblical skeptic.

I invite your opinion on this, though, and would be interested in discussing this further with you.

UNTAUGHT AND UNSTABLE? BY STEVE FINNELL

Why are there so many Christian denomination? Is there a direct correlation between multiple denominations and the untaught and unstable?

1 Peter 3:15-16.....just as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given him, wrote to you, 16 as also in all his letters, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures to their own destruction.(NASB)

QUESTIONS ABOUT THE UNTAUGHT AND UNSTABLE?

Many in the denominational world deny that repentance and water baptism are essential to receive forgiveness of sins.

Acts 2:38 Peter said to them, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.(NASB)

Acts 2:38 And Peter replied, "Each one of you must turn from sin, return to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; then you also shall receive this gift, the Holy Spirit. (The Living Bible -Paraphrased)

How is it possible to believe that the conjunction "and" does not connect repentance and water baptism as both being essential for the forgiveness of sin? [THE UNTAUGHT AND UNSTABLE DISTORT]

How could anyone reach the conclusion the repentance is unnecessary for forgiveness?[THE UNTAUGHT AND UNSTABLE DISTORT]

How is it that men teach that"for"in Acts 2:38 actually means, because your sins have already been forgiven? [THE UNTAUGHT AND UNSTABLE DISTORT]

How can men interpret, for the forgiveness of "your" sins in Acts 2:38 to mean that men and infants alike should be baptized in water for the forgiveness of the sin Adam committed in the garden of Eden?[THE UNTAUGHT AND UNSTABLE DISTORT]

THINGS THE APOSTLE PETER DID NOT SAY IN ACTS 2:38 NOR ANYWHERE ELSE IN SCRIPTURE .

1. Peter did not say repentance was not essential to receive forgiveness from sins.

2. Peter did not say water baptism was not necessary for forgiveness from sins.

3. Peter did not say be baptized so you can be forgiven for the sin of Adam (original sin).

4. Peter did not say be baptized because your sins have already been forgiven.

5. Peter did not say your sins are forgiven by faith only; therefore you do not have to be baptized in water in order to receive salvation.

6. Peter did not say you need to be baptized into your local church denomination.

7. Peter did not say be baptized in water as a testimony of your faith to your community.

In order to believe or teach these things you either have to be untaught, unstable or both.
